The 1948 World Series was the 45th edition of the championship series and matched the American League champion Cleveland and the National League champion Boston Braves. The Braves had won the National League pennant for the first time since the "Miracle Braves" team of 1914, while Cleveland had spoiled a chance for the only all-Boston World Series by winning a one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox for the American League flag. Cleveland featured superstar pitcher Bob Feller, the first American League black player in Larry Doby as well as Satchel Paige on their pitching staff. They won the Series in six games to capture their second championship. Cleveland has not won a World Series since.
