More About This Product:
Goalie masks are a must in the National Hockey League today, but that always wasn't the case. Through the first 40 years of professional hockey (1920's to late 1950's) goalies worn no protection. That changed in 1959 when Montreal Canadians goalie Jacques Plante was hit in the face with a puck and began wearing a goalie mask. This concept of protecting the face began to be adopted by other professional NFL goalies. At the start of the 1962 season, Detroit Red Wings goalies Terry Sawchuk and Dennis Riggins introduced the goalie masks they intended to wear for the 1962-1963 season.
